Korean exports fall by 8.6% in January

by Tony Sagami on February 1, 2010

South Korea is Asia’s fourth-largest economy but it is still struggling to find its economic footing.

South Korea exported an average of $1.38 billion worth of goods every day in January. That may sound like a lot but it is a 8.6% decrease from the $1.51 billion it shipped in December. More concerning is that it is the sharpest monthly fall since January of 2009.

There was one bright piece of news in that otherwise dismal report: exports to China increased by 6%.

What does that tell you? It tells me that it is still full-steam ahead for China while the U.S. and Europe continue to struggle.
