Monumental change of Japanese leadership

by Tony Sagami on August 31, 2009

Imagine if the Republican Party had been in charge of Congress and the Presidency for the last 54 years. And then imagine if the Democratic Party won a landslide victory and captured an overwhelming majority of the congressional seats?

That’s what happened in Japan when the Democratic Party of Japan overturned the Liberal Democratic Party in over the weekend.

The LDP was considered the champion of big business, exporters, and conservative principles. The DPJ is considered more like the U.S. democrats.

The one significant change I foresee is for the new DPJ party to emphasis domestic consumption policies over big business exporters.

Could have giant investment implications.
