Sorry to hear you are getting beat up about climate change. I found your remarks refreshing. It is amazing how many people who deal with cycles and trends in the financial world can’t imagine that a bout of cold weather might be a counter-trend. The mistakes and possible corruptions in the science are proof there is nothing to worry about, but the extensive editing, revising, and muzzling of government science by Bush political officers does not imply we are in trouble. Scientists are thought to be in it for the money, while Exxon, I guess, is in it for truth, respect from their peers, and a scientific legacy.

Sean,

You mentioned climate change. It is not just tiny fluctuations, but outright lies about climate change that have trumped up the global warning fraud. The real stories are finally coming out, and the UN is finally back-pedaling. This is detailed in the Investor’s Business Daily article “Climate Flimflam Flaming Out” 1/26/2010, pg 10.

Thanks, John. You make some great points. Good luck to us all.

Hi, David
No, it’s scientifc mistakes — and scientists can always make mistakes — that are trumpeted as outright lies by a whole gaggle of think tanks with fancy titles that are funded by the fossil fuel industry. This story in IBD is just the latest in a disinformation campaign pushed by your friendly neighborhood coal and oil companies. I’ve been to the Arctic, and I’ve seen the glaciers melting.
But it doesn’t matter what you and I think. As I’ve said before, governments around the world will throw lots of money at global warming and alternative energy. You can sit on the sidelines or you can swim in that deluge of cash.
We need to move toward alternative fuels anyway, so we are less dependent on our Middle East “allies.” I don’t see a dowside toward taking action on global warming, especially since “cap-and-trade” — a fuelish scheme that would have funneled more money into Wall Street bankers’ pockets — is now dead, or close to dead.
