It’s not too late to give to the relief effort for Haiti.  The Red Cross is accepting donations HERE.

Platinum Reaches 17-Month High on Investor, Industrial Demand; Gold Gains

Platinum climbed to a 17-month high on speculation investment and industrial demand will increase. Gold rose as the dollar weakened.

A bank levy will not stop the doomsday cycle

There is growing recognition that our financial system is running a doomsday cycle. Whenever it fails, we rely on lax money and fiscal policies to bail it out. This response teaches the financial sector a simple lesson: take large gambles to get paid handsomely, and don’t worry about the costs – they will be paid by taxpayers (through fiscal bail-outs), savers (through interest rates cut to zero), and many workers (through lost jobs). Our financial system is thus resurrected to gamble again – and to fail again. Such cycles have been manifest at least since the 1970s and they are getting larger. This danger has even been recognised at the Bank of England, where Andrew Haldane, responsible for financial stability, recently published an eloquent critique of what he calls our “doom loop”.

XX Sean’s note — Jesse has some great commentary on this:  “The Banking Oligarchy Must  Be Restrained for a Recovery to Be Sustained.”

Illinois is Insolvent

As Illinois’ fiscal crisis deepens, the word “bankruptcy” is creeping more and more into the public discourse.  “We would like all the stakeholders of Illinois to recognize how close the state is to bankruptcy or insolvency,” says Laurence Msall, president of the Civic Federation, a fiscal watchdog in Chicago.

Will Scott Brown Ruin Republicans’ (Secret) Plan to Pass Obamacare?

It is now a given that if he wins a Massachusetts Senate seat on Tuesday, Scott Brown will destroy the Democrats’ plan to pass health care reform. But he will also destroy the Republicans’ not-so-secret plan to pass health care reform.

XX Sean’s note — And from the “Ultimate Suburban Survivalist” files …

Looters roam Port-au-Prince as earthquake death toll estimate climbs

The death toll from Haiti’s earthquake climbed to as high as an estimated 140,000, as logistical bottlenecks delayed aid and stoked looting by survivors desperate for food and water.

XX This is just the kind of situation I talk about in my book. Don’t judge the people of Haiti harshly – they are not only worried about food today, they are worried about food for next week.  Lacking any meaningful stockpiles of food, they are terrified they are going to starve to death.  We pity Haiti now, but a major disaster can happen to your town and change your life forever.  The lesson from this is to start preparing and start prepping!

XX I’ll say again, it’s not too late to give to the relief effort for Haiti.  The Red Cross is accepting donations HERE.

Rainstorm wallops Southern California

The strongest of three back-to-back rainstorms is expected to clear out by midday today after walloping Southern California on Saturday, sending mud and rocks tumbling onto roads, trapping about 90 vehicles on mountainous Angeles Crest Highway for hours and causing officials to issue mandatory evacuation orders for more than 40 homes.

XX – like I explain in my book, flood is one of the most common disasters you’ll face in your lifetime.  Be prepared!

U.S. Military Weapons Inscribed With Secret ‘Jesus’ Bible Codes

Coded references to New Testament Bible passages about Jesus Christ are inscribed on high-powered rifle sights provided to the United States military by a Michigan company, an ABC News investigation has found.

XX Sean’s note – do these guys seriously think Jesus has a favorite sniper scope?
